Digitrax's DS-54 stationary decoder does not come with a test unit.  Despite all of the DS-54 features, this device is necessary to allow you to program with both eyes open. 

It allows you to check your CV's with the yellow wire attached to one of the track power (must be connected to programming track power during programming) connections. 

With or without the yellow wire, the two LED's, one red, one green can tell you whether or not your outputs will be momentary for solenoid or constant on for slow motion motor types.
